We spent the night in Eureka, Ca. I wanted to see the Bigfoot Museum but it was on a parallel road to the one to the Redwood National Park. Nolan found a small, unpaved road that would connect the two and was very excited to try it. So we went to the museum. It was pretty small and kind of a disappointment, but interesting to see the evidence that they exist! Maybe they do.
After that we found our small road. It was pretty much a one lane road. We crossed a handful of other drivers but mostly had it to ourselves. At one point it became a dirt road. Then we entered the park on this road, Bald Hill Rd. We were on top of the mountains all by ourselves. It was very beautiful. The flowers smelled amazing. The girls were having fun eating cheesey poofs in the back :)
We looked at a lot of fun things but drove straight to Fern Canyon, recommended by Uncie Jon. It was a small canyon hike through a river with cliffs of ferns on the sides. Very Pretty!!! A frog almost fell on my head while i was taking a picture. And we started to see these caterpillar, worm like things gathered in the water. That was a little gross, but the rest of the hike was breathtaking.
We then drove maybe a mile back down the road and stopped to play on the beach. The girls love the sand. Clara wasnt as excited to get in the water today. I think she was tired. She stayed next to me on a towel almost the whole time. She played a little in the sand, covered herself and laid down, and also ate starbursts and granola bars. Lexa on the other hand was back in the water and building a sand castle. Nolan started to help her. I think it started as a volcano then built a wall around it to protect from the water that was starting to come closer. It ended up being a big wall they were trying to see could stand the waves. As we were leaving one finally came over the top and wiped it out. We all had hours of fun!!! And I got to read my Kindle on the beach and take pictures.
On our way out of the park we saw a herd of elk. They had babies and we could hear the noises they were making. It was very cute :) We drove to Crescent Bay and had dinner at Taco Bell. We continued on to Coos Bay, Or. We finally left California. Lexa got car sick once after it got dark. This is the first trip this has happened. It also happened one night in San Francisco. But we let her walk around and she was ok. I think I will look into those bracelets that help with car sickness.
Spent the night at Motel 6 and are ready to start another day. Nolan is debating whether to head home or to Portland for one more night. He really wants to go to the Ham Radio Outlet stores.
